2016 Civic Engagement Workshops

The Our Children, Our Future Campaign is serious about the 2016 election. We WILL make child poverty a defining issue in the 2016 election. We WILL help organizations and volunteers prepare to get-out-the-vote. We Will empower leaders to make the election count.

From Election Law 101 to organizing candidate forums to voter registration drives, plus MORE, we got it covered.

Healthy Schools Day at The Capitol

Wednesday, Feb. 24
The State Capitol, Charleston

Join fellow community advocates, parents, students, teachers, school administration and legislators, as we take action and learn how to make West Virginia schools a healthier environment for West Virginia’s children.

It’s a great opportunity to interact and learn as we engage our state’s policy makers on what matters most in our local communities and at our schools. It is a chance to develop our newest leaders – ourselves and our state’s children!

  • How create community recreation centers statewide
  • Tips on developing a wellness council in your school
  • Learn from young people what matters most to them
  • Share resources – “how to identify what is available in our communities

 

OCOF Leadership &
Community Organizing Training

March 11 & 12
Camp Virgil Tate, Charleston

Over the course of two days, you’ll:

  • Learn how and why to have one-on-one conversations to build relationships
  • Analyze power structures – who has it, and how to bring them to your side
  • Get best practices to develop teams and bring new leaders to your issue
  • Plan meetings with decision makers
  • Ask questions of experienced organizers
  • Hear from young people about their needs and visions

Summit and Annual Retreat

Our vision is for West Virginia to be the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family – no matter who you are. That means… Great Education and Jobs… Healthy Communities and… A government that invests in people and people who invest in government.

  • Learn, discuss, and debate about the policies proposed for the Commitment to OCOF: our long-term legislative platform.
  • VOTE – on which policies will be included in the Commitment
  • Design the OCOF strategy for the year
  • VOTE – for our 2016/2017 steering committee
  • Get involved in initiatives like Student Chapters, Leadership and Organizing Trainings, Shared Use & Voter Engagement

Regional Try This Gatherings

These regional gatherings give people a chance to come together and talk about how they can collaborate across county lines to build not just healthy communities, but healthy regions.

They’re also a great chance to start forming a team to attend the statewide Try This conference in June – which is a requirement if you’re hoping to apply for a mini grant!

Try This WV Statewide Conference

June 3-4
WV Wesleyan Campus, Buckhannon
